This book "Why the toast always lands butter- side down; the hidden science of Murphy's law by Richard Richardson provides answers to these questions and more . Let just say it is
psychology/science über-simplified and written about in a very fun way. What I also really liked about this book were the simple witty quotes that were interjejected between two paragraghs every now and again.. Here are some examples.

How long a minute is depends on which side of the bathroom you are on (Zall)

An ounce of image is worth a pound of performance (Laurence J Peter)

Nobody is entirely sad at the failure of a friend(Gore VIdal)...mean but true

and this is so true ...Nothing succeeds like the appearance of success(Christopher Lasch)

There are so many more . I don't want to spoil it for anyone that might be interested in reading the book. Overall a fun book that I enjoyed very much. Although it had to do with psychology and science, it did not come off as boring at all.
